Had an open container ticket in 2011. Paid the amount I was told by mail. 6 years later I'm told that my payment was $10 short so I was considered to be on payment plan which is $20 extra. O.k. but also since fine was not paid in total I was required to be in court which I was not so I got rammed up the you know what with an aditional $200 !!!! This is exactly why working poor Americans like me are learning to hate their government.
Received a traffic ticket while traveling through Iridell County from New York. The Court's disposition of the ticket was reasonable. However, court costs were very high and the payment terms for an out-of-state resident were impossible to comply with in order to prevent an additional $20 surcharge for lateness. Court date was 6/2/15, I received letter with fine schedule on 6/8/15 in New York, payment was due 6/9/15. If the court considered the post-mark mailing date, I would be on time with payment, unfortunately the court requires the fine payment be received at the clerks's office by the due date. My opinion is the system discriminates against out-of-state residents because of the mail delay and that enables the clerk to collect an additional $20 payment. Someone should look into this. If court accepted on-line credit card payment or permitted post-mark mailing date of payment, that would resolve the problem and ensure fairness.
Don't speed if you are from out of state. They will pull you over!! I had my doors blown off by locals and was pulled over. I got my ticket and basically as I drove down the road I saw three more out of state vehicles pulled over. If you ask me this is a shakedown for people who cannot arrive in court to actually fight it and you have to take a local attorney to fight it and they have a system already in place that runs like a well oiled machine. The actual fine was cheap, but the court costs where unreasonable to say the least. JUST BE CAREFUL they are targeting out of state vehicles to generate funds.
Unbelievable chicanery on fines. Same as Wes B. Completely crooked and incompetent podunks at clerks office.
This courthouse is the most convoluted and unorganized court I've ever dealt with.
